Signs You Need a Brake Repair at Your Acura Dealer

Soft Brake Pedal

When you press down on the brake pedal, you should always feel resistance. As you exert more pressure, you’ll experience increased resistance. This resistance is generated by highly pressurized brake fluid in the system. This pressure is important, as it provides the force that will slow down and stop your car even if it’s moving at speed.

A soft brake pedal is a situation where the pedal provides little resistance when you step on it. The lack of resistance means that pressure in the braking system is low. This situation could be caused by a brake fluid leak or a blockage in the braking system. The lack of pressure will mean that your brakes will be very slow to respond when you need them. We’ll identify the cause of this problem and fix it.

Hard Brake Pedal

In this situation, your brake pedal provides too much resistance when you press down on it. This problem isn’t caused by a lack of brake fluid but by the failure of a component called the brake pedal booster. The booster’s job is to make forcing brake fluid through the system much easier.

The brake pedal booster is positioned between the brake pedal and the fluid. It uses a vacuum-powered system to massively amplify the pressure exerted on the brake pedal. This allows you to use much less effort to engage the brake. If the vacuum in the booster has been compromised, the booster won’t supply the necessary force. We’ll examine the booster and repair or replace it to fix this problem.

Leaking Brake Fluid

Brake fluid is essential for your braking system, as it provides the hydraulic power that allows the system to work. Pressure from the brake fluid forces the pins out of the calipers. Calipers are positioned above each wheel rotor. When the pins are removed, the calipers close on the wheel rotors and produce friction. This friction will slow and stop the wheels.

A brake fluid leak reduces the pressure in the system. The reduced pressure will make your brakes slower to respond. The most common first sign of a leak is a steady decrease in resistance when you hit the brake pedal. We’ll trace the source of the leak and repair it, then refill your brake fluid.
