Your Acura’s engine requires regular maintenance and servicing to keep it operating at its best. As time passes, parts will wear out or become damaged, and this will lead to engine problems. Fortunately, your Acura dealership is here to fix any potential problem for you. These are a few of the issues our technicians can repair.

3 Engine Problems You Should Always Fix at Your Acura Dealership

Leaking Radiator

The radiator is an essential part of your Acura’s cooling system. When your engine is running, it generates large amounts of heat. This heat has to be removed quickly, as a continuous engine temperature can cause long-term engine damage. The heat generated by the engine is absorbed by liquid coolant and transported to the radiator for removal via heat exchange.

In time, leaks can develop in the radiator due to rust, metal fatigue, or loose or damaged components. Coolant moves through the radiator at high speed, which means any leak can cause a rapid loss of coolant. As the coolant level drops, the movement of the remaining coolant will slow down, and the engine will overheat. We’ll examine the cause of the leak, and either repair it or replace your radiator.

Dirty Intake Manifold

The intake manifold is the part of your engine where fuel and air mix before they’re drawn into the engine cylinders. Fuel and air must mix in a precise ratio to allow for efficient combustion. It may seem surprising, but your engine requires more air than fuel, as the air allows the fuel to burn correctly and generate the controlled explosions that enable your Acura to move.

The fuel contains carbon, and some of this carbon is left in the manifold when the fuel-air mixture is drawn into the cylinders. Carbon can build up over time in the manifold, and its presence can turn the fuel-air mixture fuel-rich. A fuel-rich mixture in the engine can result in damaged spark plugs, misfiring, and stalling. We can easily fix this problem by removing the manifold and cleaning it.

Worn Ignition Coils

The spark plug’s job is to ignite the fuel-air mixture in the cylinders, producing combustion. The plugs, however, don’t have enough power on their own to cause the fuel-air mixture to burn, since a spark plug only generates 12 volts of power. Each spark plug has a connected ignition coil that supplies 36,000 volts, which allows the fuel-air mixture to ignite correctly.

Ignition coils need to be replaced regularly, according to the service schedule in your car manual. A worn or damaged coil won’t provide the necessary boost to its connected spark plug, and the lack of power can cause the cylinder to misfire. Our technicians will check your ignition coils and replace worn or damaged ones.
