Laurelwood Arboretum
Fall is a beautiful time to visit Laurelwood Arboretum in Wayne, so you can catch a glimpse of the colorful autumn leaves. You can spend an entire day strolling through the grounds, which include a sculpture trail, azalea pathway, lilac walk, wetlands garden, pollinator garden, sensory garden, rock garden, and native plant demonstration garden. Laurelwood Arboretum is located at 725 Pines Lakes Drive W. You can visit seven days a week from 8 a.m. to dusk. Admission is free, but donations benefit Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum.
High Mountain Park Preserve
Explore the Watchung Mountains on more than 11 miles of hiking trails that offer waterfalls, steep climbs, and panoramic views of New York City. While you’re at High Mountain Park Preserve in Wayne, you may see rare animal and plant species like long-eared bats and mountain mint. The park spans 1,260 acres, so you’ll always find something new to see, and it’s open year-round during daylight hours.
High Mountain Park Preserve is located at 100 University Dr. It’s open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Autumn Lights Festival
This annual event takes place about 20 miles from Wayne in West Milford. The Autumn Lights Festival is one of North Jersey’s largest street festivals with more than 300 vendors along with rides, games, kids’ activities, live music, food trucks, and much more.
Mark your calendar for October 7 to catch the Autumn Lights Festival, which is free to attend. Parking for the event is located at the West Milford Recreation Center, 66 Cahill Cross Rd.
Passaic County Paws in the Park
Head to Hawthorne about 20 minutes from Wayne for this annual event to benefit the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit. Paws in the Park features raffles, prizes, food trucks, pet contests, and demonstrations by the department’s K-9 squad. Passaic County PAWS will be on hand with dogs and cats for adoption in case you want to bring home a new best friend.
The 7th annual Paws in the Park event will take place on Saturday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s held at Goffle Brook Park, located at 675 Goffle Rd, which also has meadows, hiking trails, and a dog run.
