When you're in the market for a three-row luxury SUV, the Acura MDX has proven itself to be one of the best options on the market since it debuted last year. The 2023 version has even more great features, so you may not want to miss out on everything this stunning piece of automotive engineering has to offer. Trim Levels (Exterior)
While the MDX technically has six different trim levels, several of them are simply trim levels with an add-on package included. The base-level trim comes with quite a few exciting features in its own right, such as 19-inch alloy wheels, Jewel Eye LED headlights, and a panoramic moonroof. Upgrade to the Technology Package, and you also get power-folding side mirrors and 20-inch alloy wheels.
At the A-Spec trim level, the MDX is equipped with black exterior styling elements and a larger rear anti-roll bar. With the Advance Package, you also get a hands-free power liftgate, 20-inch wheels, and LED exterior door handle lighting. Meanwhile, the Type S trim boasts 21-inch wheels and self-sealing tires. Opt for the Type S with Advance Package, and the Advance Package and Type S offerings are combined into one.
Engine (Power)
Under the hood of your MDX, you'll find one of two engine options. To begin with, this SUV is outfitted with a powerful 3.5-liter V-6 that boasts an outstanding 290 horsepower with 267 pound-feet of torque. If that's not quite enough for you, the Type S trim has a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 that offers an incredible 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Just note that Acura recommends premium gasoline for both of these engines.
Performance
Driving the MDX is both fun and easy thanks to its enhanced performance features. While it has a standard front-wheel-drive setup, you can opt for Acura's iconic SH-AWD system, which makes it a bit easier to control even if you're traversing unfriendly road conditions. Plus, this SUV is quite speedy, being able to reach 60 miles per hour from a dead stop in only 5.7 seconds. With the Type S, you even get an air suspension system for a smooth and efficient ride with variable ride heights.
Interior
Inside the MDX, you'll find plenty of room to relax thanks to its generous interior space. In the front, you get 41.6 inches of legroom, while your second-row passengers have 38.5 inches of legroom at their disposal. If you're more interested in cargo, the MDX features a maximum cargo capacity of 71.4 cubic feet. Even if you only fold the third row down, you still get 39.1 cubic feet of space.
Safety Features
Numerous safety features have been implemented in the MDX, and many are standard right from the base-level trim. Some of these standard features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the MDX a full five stars for its overall safety rating after extensive crash testing.
